Practice and Transportation


Pre-season Conditioning (Participation optional, but recommended) starts in January. Typically four days per
week working up to five in February.
Conditioning consists of – weight training, running, exercising, erging, and one day at boathouse to use tanks.

Location to be determined.
Beginning of Spring season (March) at FDR with one day at the boathouse to use tanks
3:15pm to 5:30pm (times to change once move to boathouse dependent upon weather and water conditions
and number of boats.)
About mid-March move to the HRRA Boathouse (once docks go in).
Increase to 6 days - Saturday and Sunday early AM (6:00am to 8:30am) Be there at least 15 minutes early!!!

Regulation requires a day of rest; again particular day may change due to weather and race schedule.
During Spring Break, twice a day - Time To be Determined.
Varsity teams also practice in the AM prior to school as the season progresses.

To practice at FDR:
Stay after for school; parent pick-up only, no late buses.
  • Parent drop off and parent pick-up if start time is later.

To practice at Boathouse:
Hyde Park School District buses after school to Boathouse; parent pick-up.
Parent drop off and parent pick-up if start time is later, weekends, early AM, and spring break.
Rower waits at the bay till practice begins.

Clothing Needed For Practice:

Sweats, tank/tee-shirt, spandex – not loose or baggy shorts (get caught in the seat rails)
Dress warm in early spring water practice; at least 10 degrees cooler than at home.
Flip flops
Sneakers - a must to every practice for running.

Equipment needed for Practice:

Duffle bag, change of clothes, WATER (preferable reusable water bottles). Store bag on hooks in bay.

Swim Test:

Passing test is a requirement for new rowers to stay on FDR Crew Team.
